WorkSafe – Energy Safety Report Reveals Regulatory Breaches in Electrical Safety Certificates

The Board urges all electrical workers to ensure strict compliance with current regulations and to use the latest versions of CoCs and ESCs available on the designated websites. Failure to adhere to these standards may result in disputes, invalidated certifications, and potential disciplinary actions.

The Electrical Workers Registration Board, through its thorough investigations and disciplinary hearings, has unearthed the adverse impact of incorrectly completed Certificate of Compliance (CoC) and Electrical Safety Certificates (ESC) on electrical workers. These certificates, considered crucial legal documents, are meant to provide assurance to both clients and electrical workers that any performed work complies with legal and safety standards. However, a significant number of electrical workers facing disputes or complaints have been found to rely on invalidated CoCs or ESCs.

WorkSafe – Energy Safety has contributed to this discovery by sharing findings from their Electrical and Gas High Risk Database (EGHRDB) auditing program. The investigation identified common areas of regulatory breaches related to CoCs and ESCs:

  1. Outdated Versions
  2. Missing Documentation
  3. Lack of Electrical System Identification
  4. Incomplete Work Information
  5. Ambiguity in Application
  6. Missing Dates in ESC
  7. Timing Discrepancies

The Board urges all electrical workers to ensure strict compliance with current regulations and to use the latest versions of CoCs and ESCs available on the designated websites. Failure to adhere to these standards may result in disputes, invalidated certifications, and potential disciplinary actions.
